About Richard Barone
My art embodies social and personal confrontations with the world. The style is intentionally realistic and historical to contrast with artists that appeal to modern tastes and sentiments, which judge solely by degrees of utility and satisfaction. Their aim is to develop an autographic style, but the results are often self-centered and do not appeal to the transcendent. My art seeks to facilitate the viewer, who can reach out and touch the surface but cannot enter into the painting, thus representing the limits and difference of consciousness from the world. My art does not aim to persuade or deceive, but allows the viewer to experience a genuine freedom, namely, the coexistent disclosure of the artwork. My paintings are about the essence of a work of art that is distinct from photography. A photo duplicates a specific space and time, but a painting creates its own space and time, giving the viewer a greater sense of being that exists in the artwork.
